AHHHAHAHHAHAHH the days of beloved Jetta are coming to a close!!! As I type this the eBay auction has 2 hours left. This car has been an integral part of my life for these reasons:
# 1 It brought my Dad and I back from my mission. It was lovingly given to my by my 2nd cousin who lives in Valencia, CA. They drove it to Ventura where the mission home was and we drove it back to Kaysville, UT.
# 2 It was purchased by my great uncle in Cedar City, UT brand new in 1986 and has been owned by family members ever since.
# 3 This is the first car I’ve ever owned and also my first vanity plate: “PLAN IT”. I get a lot of laughs and compliments about that. I figure it’s motvation to succeed with ma business.
# 4 This is also the car I gave my first ride to Janie Thompson in. I can end a sentence with a preposition if I want to. Lotsa memories, lotsa memories.
# 5 The Jetta has prevented me from marrying a gold digger. I go to pick girls up and they have to love me for who I am
# 6 I took it on a 3,000 mile road trip in the summer of 2007 that completely rocked. It was Provo to Phoenix (sister) to LA to Santa Barbara and Santa Maria (mission) to Sacramento, CA (cousin) to Portland (grandparents) to Jerome, ID (mission buddy with many moo tows) to Kaysville, UT (parents). I found out on this trip that a) I’m kind of crazy in a car by myself as evidenced by the crazy videos I took b) the car can do 515 miles on one tank of diesel and c) I ain’t afraid of road trips and doing what I feel would be fun/good.
# 7 Some value other people’s possessions very highly as evidenced by the $2,225 price right now on eBay. It’s still got 1 hr 50 mins at this point. Kelly Blue book is $750.
Here’s the little you tube video I took to help sell it:
Werd. Improvements in the biz. Today was Boston’s second day at the office and it’s been going really well. He is all about Parker Planners and owns his work. He showed up today with a whiteboard and markers to help keep track of things. Rock.
Here are some pictures I’ve been sharing on Twitter lately. Sorry to those who aren’t friends with me on facebook or follow me on twitter, they wouldn’t see this stuff. It’s kind of a lazy man’s way to blog. When I post something on twitter from my phone it automatically goes to my facebook feed, too.
I got another key for my office made today and met the owner of this vehicle in the key place. It’s also a mid-1980’s VW diesel contraption. Front-wheel drive, weird.
My office now has a second person, a second desk, and some cool stuff on the walls.
Eric and I went to the BYU vs UNLV basketball game. Jimmer Fredette did it again by silencing a critic star player on the other team and proving he can pass the ball, too. 29 points but also 7 assists and 2 other team members scored 12 points or better.
This is a hilarious and amazingly long discussion on facebook about “The Jimmer”. It made it on ESPN.com.
That’s Spanish for brakes. We were driving along happily on the freeway the other day when the brake pedal went to the floor in traffic in the Jetta. This is no big deal but my sweet girlfriend and brotherman were in the car, too. Hmmm. The car is a 1986 but only has like 88k miles on it. Don’t know what went wrong but we’re going to find out soon from Rob’s Auto in Kaysville, UT. Poor Jetta; poor poor Jetta. Looks like it may be more of an in-town car now.
It’s been a fabulous means of transportation for years.
This is the start of a new category in Being Happy, Living the Dream. It’s called The VW Jetta. Why? Because “The Beast”, as one of my very favorite roomates calls it, still roams free and breaths life into its occupants.
It’s my car. A 1986 VW Jetta. Brown, down, get-out-of-town (eventually) slow, 68 hp of turbocharged diesel mania! When its all tuned up it will get about 50mpg. How’s that for a clunker? It will beat the heck out of those hybrid -wannabe effiecient but take 10 years to make up the difference in price- blognamobiles.
My benevolent first cousin once removed gave me this car as a going-home present from my mission. My dad flew in and we drove it from Ventura to their new home in Kaysville back in September of 2006. It was a splendid ride. It only had 73k miles on it at the time! What a machine strait from the heavens.
This car has given many a ride to my best bud Janie, given rides to lovely ladies, got the groceries, and taken me from Provo to Phoenix, Phx to LA, LA to Oregon and back to Provo again. The beast and I have had some good times.
